CORONAVIRUS UPDATE #4 – 3/19/2020
We wanted to share with you the latest information regarding the Little League season and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. As you are all aware, in alignment with Little League International recommendations, we suspended Little League activities through May 11, 2020. That suspension currently stands, as player and community safety remains our top priority. It is our hope that we will be able to resume playing by that date.
However, there is the possible scenario that the suspension could last beyond the May 11 target date. Little League International is looking at the impacts of delaying the season, including the possibility of playing through the summer, and having the international tournaments (Little League World Series) being played in the Fall. It is still too early to determine what will happen, as the ever-changing events and activities with the coronavirus pandemic will dictate actions going forward.
As a reminder, NO little league activities are being allowed at any of our leagues. This includes any practices, regular games, make-up games, or social gatherings. There are several reasons: prevention of potential coronavirus exposure and community spread is of utmost priority; access to fields is being restricted by local agencies; little league insurance will not cover injuries for non-authorized activities.
All our league presidents have been briefed through telecons, and we will continue to provide information and guidance to them as we receive updates from local agencies and Little League International. We share in the disappointment that many are feeling surrounding this pause in the 2020 season, and we ask for your patience as we all work through the changes this has made in our lives. All our leagues share the hope of providing opportunities to play Little League throughout the spring and summer.
Should you have any specific questions, please refer them to your local league. We encourage you to share this information with parents and membership of your league to ensure they are up-to-date and informed.
